On a site in Northampton for one of our housing developer clients stood a large mature Oak Tree. As part of a routine survey carried out by one of our fully qualified tree consultants, a large cavity was discovered in the base of the tree as well as numerous defects with the main structural limbs and through out the canopy.
To make the site safe for the new residents of the development, whilst at the same time retaining this historical tree, it was proposed to give the tree a heavy crown reduction to minimise the likelihood of the tree failing and causing harm.
But it was not the just the residents of the new homes we had to be mindful of, the tree had potential for residents of its own! With a bat roost in a nearby historic property on the site and thus this tree having bat roost potential, we called in a independent licensed bat expert to aid us.
With our expert on site we safely reduced the tree allowing our “Bat Man” to inspect the nooks and crevices of slowly lowered limbs for bat presence.

Although a heavy reduction and sever loss of canopy for the tree, we retained as much foliage as possible to give the tree the best possible chance at survival.
